JC/DC Action Alert – Child Trafficking

Cases of child trafficking have been reported in all 50 states including Missouri.  Studies indicate that this is an ongoing, growing problem that’s under reported and hard to track.

Missouri PTA has an increased determination in the fight against child trafficking and firmly supports HB 1562.  This bill would enhance our current law by expanding the definition of trafficking to include the phrase ‘advertise the availability of’.   This addition of this language creates a more comprehensive law and increases our chances in combating this issue.

Please reach out to your state representative and ask for their support of HB 1562.

JC/DC Action Alert – Title I Comments Due Thursday

Make Your Voice Heard on the Implementation of the New Every Student Succeeds Act! Take Action Now!

Currently the Department of Education is accepting comments on the implementation of Title I under the newly reauthorized Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).  PTA is committed to making sure this law keeps meaningful family engagement a focus, and states receive both greater clarity over terminology included in the language and regulations on aspects such as assessments, under performing subgroups, and technical requirements that define school quality or student success.

Re-authorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA – ESSA) was just the first step.  We now need to make sure our Department of Education produces the much needed regulations and procedures that are the best for all our kids.
