VP of Legislation & Advocacy – Kristina Wilmoth

Your Name:  Kristina Wilmoth

MoPTA Board of Managers Position:  Vice President of Legislation & Advocacy

Years Involved in Board of Managers:  4

What does your position do?:  My position works to oversee all legislative and advocacy matters for Missouri PTA, passing pertinent information and Action Alerts to our councils and units.  I also direct the Legislation and Advocacy department so we are staying connected to National updates as well as local needs.

Unit/Council, Region & Years Involved:  Weaver PTA, Ozarks, 1 year (new unit)

Why are you involved in PTA?:  I began my journey with our elementary unit because I wanted to be an involved parent but I was working full time while finishing my degree at Missouri State University so I had trouble being a “classroom mom”.  I found I could help PTA, utilizing my talents by managing social media for multiple local units. That led me to the state level and I continue my PTA involvement because I’ve been able to witness real, tangible changes and improvements in my state, region, and schools because of our advocacy work.  It’s invigorating!

Favorites:

Food/Drink:  I love fresh snack foods-veggies & hummus, cut up fresh fruit, and crackers w/ cheese and I’m a happy camper!

Season:  Summer has taken over in my life!  I hate being cold so sitting on my front porch (barefoot) with a cold drink is my favorite.

Entertainment (Book, Movie, TV, Band, Music):  I love to read parenting books!  I watch I Love Lucy, The Office, and Friends episodes to unwind.

Activities/Hobbies:  I have a large family and we love to spend time at our neighborhood park and pool as much as possible.  We are also love staying home, watching movies, and eating popcorn and snacks all day.

Quote:  We all have the same 24 hours in a day-how am I using my time to make a difference for those around me?

More about you:

Describe yourself in 3-5 words:  tenacious, methodical, nurturing, motivated.

Healthy Living Tip:  I subscribe to the theory that less-processed food is healthier, so my family works to make sure half of our dinner plate is fresh or steamed foods.  It’s easy to track and my kids find it fun to get creative, finding new fresh foods to pair with our main dishes.

What makes you stand out?:  I have 8 children and have been compared to a mother duck when they all following me in a line while in public.

What are you learning this year:  How to simplify my life and get to the root of what makes me and my family happy.  Spoiler alert: it’s not STUFF. Experiences build memories that make my family happy and healthy.

What is a goal you have this year?:  Lose 50 pounds, reduce my wardrobe by 50%, and pay off credit card debt by 50%.  Lots of reducing stress in my life.

What is a proud accomplishment?:  I have lost about 40 pounds this year so far.
